“Big sis Izwin!” She brightens at the sight of the older female, all but bouncing into the lift and next to the assistant K-lab scientist as the elevator closes before them. It’s been awhile since she has seen the other, the last she remembered seeing Izwin was when both head and assistant K-lab scientists were buried deep in examining the remains of Octark, a Kaiju crossed between an octopus and a shark that had wreck havoc off the island of Philippines before it was brought down by Beta Strucker.

“How are you? It’s been so long since we last met~!” She whines, pouting, as she turns kitten-like by pawing at Izwin’s arm. The older female merely laughs, allowing her junior to do so out of fondness.

“I’m fine. And before you ask, so is Joey.” Izwin cheekily adds, knowing that Ariel is as concern with the head K-lab scientist as with the assistant. They share a small laugh together, a moment of happiness that Ariel hides in the back of her subconscious. “By the way, which floor are you going to? The dorm or the K-lab?”

“Eh? The dorm-“ She glances to the elevator’s control panel and gasps. She had been so caught up with talking that she had forgotten to press the button for the dormitory floor!

Fortunately, Ariel is with Izwin, a person born with quick reflexes, already tapping said button before they went just pass the floor. Both lets out a breath of relief as the door slides apart, Ariel gingerly bowing in gratefulness before she wipes away a stray bead of sweat.

“Ah ha… I guess my memories are really like goldfish’s memory, huh…?”

Izwin huffs. “Don’t laugh. I almost had a heart attack from that.”

“Well, but you managed to press the button just in time, so…” Bashfully Ariel tilts her head, Izwin rolling her eyes in mock annoyance before she shoos the younger girl out of the elevator.

“Alright, alright; out you go. Someone needs to wake them up, and unfortunately you’re the one for the job.”

Ariel grins and shrugs.

“I don’t mind. After all, I’m their babysitter.”

Light footsteps towards a particular door before they stop, the girl examining the crudely carved words of ‘A.E.’ that looked like a knife was the culprit of such contrast from the otherwise plain looking door. Yet she is here for business, not to examine doors; fishing out her set of keys she unlocks the door with a soft click, taking a deep breath before she takes a step into the dorm room.

She leaves her sneakers outside of the room, closing the door behind her with a click once more before she turns hazelnut eyes to the dark. It feels like she had gotten out of Earth and into some unknown space, a description she agrees deep down with the horrible state of the room. Her nose scrunches up in disgust, resisting the urge to scream, as it grows stronger with every second passing.

Goodness Gracious; why don’t they send their dirty laundry to the cleaners instead of putting them there?! And where did all those dirty plates come from??

“You two…” There’s a Chinese phrase that comes in handy at this moment, she belatedly thinks to herself as she takes a sharp intake of air.

“…WAKE UP ALREADY!!

That is, when one cannot hold back his anger anymore, a fuse is blown.

A loud shout later, two heads crashing against a ceiling and metal frame of the bed respectively while she reacts in kind by wincing in slight apology.

Slight, because on top of three of them will be late again if those two guys of hers don’t get out of bed, the state of affairs of the room has snapped her out of her usual meek attitude.

But still, an apology is required.

“Sorry guys. But we really need to go or else Achik will have our hides…”

“You mean our hides. She loves you too much to skin yours.” A fluffy mop of bed hair pops into her line of vision when she looks up to the source of the voice, the grumbling man nursing the ‘red packet’ from the wake-up call as he slowly crawls down the bunk ladder, all the while shooting daggers towards her. She adopts her defense weapon: Big teary eyes companied by jutting out her lower lip, her signature teary-eyed expression perfected over the months of overseeing the pilots of Gamma Rapper.

Just then, a snort is heard from the bottom bed.

“Don’t; You are far from innocent as you like everyone to believe.”

She rolls her eyes at that, her act dropped immediately. “Come on, Eric. Evidence speaks louder than your accusations: Both of you already have two warning letters, one issued by Zul and another by Khairil.”

“Feh… It’s not like it’s our first time receiving warning letters to get so distress over it like you do…” Aaron waves her worry away, heading towards the direction of the bathroom, a sleepy Eric trailing after his significantly taller companion. She shakes her head after watching the bathroom door close.

Really. That mind-synchronization is really terrifying in its ability to link two pilots to do everything together.

While the boys are getting themselves clean, Ariel takes this time to check through her social chat history on her phone. Yup, the same old story where Nazirah bickers with Tharmen while Akmal and Khairil has a showdown, mostly sparked by information posted by Iris that were most likely unintentional. Honestly, she sighs, snapping her phone shut. No point reading through the arguments that Zul and Joey had to always clean up the mess.

Instead, she takes her mind off the conversations and to glancing around the room she’s in. Beside the eyesore of dirty laundry and plates, the place is exactly like a teenager’s room: Messy and filled with guy’s stuff. Ariel remembers the first month when she’s officially join as Gamma Rapper’s supervisor trainee, when Gamma Rapper is still under the care of her senior, Siti.

She remembers Siti’s kindness, teaching her carefully the right way to handle the troublesome pair and techniques to the paperwork. Truth to be told, the abrupt resignation behind Siti still befuddles her: Did something happened to Siti? Why did she leave so soon, without warning at all to both pilots and Ariel?

Ariel blames her senior as the reason why the two boys changed.

Yet, with the incoming storm heading their way, she’s not sure if Siti is still to be at fault.

In the end, she thinks none of the past as the three of them proceed down the corridor. It’s 7:20 A.M., and they have a general meeting on 7:25 A.M., so she urges the two pilots along as fast as possible towards the Mess Hall, amidst the loud protests by the sleepy duo. Why the Mess Hall, you ask?

Simple: They don’t have a meeting room.

Reason: The PPDC is stingy, and their budget is limited. Hence why the Marshall has to specially reserve the only long table at a corner of the Hall for as much privacy as possible.

By a show of good fortune the trio arrives on time, Ariel letting out a breath of nervousness as she glances around the Mess Hall for good measure. At this time of the day, there’s only a very small number of people present besides those required to attend the meeting, though the fact that they were the last to arrive made Ariel feel slightly downhearted despite they weren’t late.

Oh well.
